If you want your car to lock when you pull in without tapping the app every time, a location-based automation can help.
You can run BetterKey from Shortcuts when you arrive at a place you choose, optionally wait a few minutes, then lock the vehicle. That delay is useful so the lock does not fire while you are still moving into the driveway or parking spot.
Why Use Arrive + Wait?#
Factory apps and walk-away locking do not always match how you use the car:
- You may not get a reliable “arrived home” signal from the manufacturer app
- You might prefer a short pause before locking
- You want one flow that works the same at home, work, or any saved location
Shortcuts fills that gap when you combine BetterKey with an Arrive automation.
How It Fits Together#
At a high level:
- Shortcuts watches for when you arrive at a location
- A Wait action gives you time to park and gather your things
- BetterKey runs Lock my car for the vehicle you pick
You build this once on your iPhone; after that it can run on its own when the conditions are met.

Arrive at Location walkthrough#
On your iPhone or iPad, use the Arrive at Location guide on Shortcuts for BetterKey (open the gallery). It covers the Arrive trigger, turning on Run Immediately, adding Wait, then Lock my car with your vehicle selected. On a Mac, Shortcuts may show “unknown action” for some steps; use your phone for setup and testing.
The FAQ there is the same idea as our other gallery guides: automations are created on your device, and BetterKey provides the actions inside Shortcuts.
